Canisius College, located in Buffalo, NY, is where the author obtained his college education. He initially attended on a basketball scholarship, but when it became clear that he was not likely to develop a sustained career as a professional player, he chose to follow and develop his interest in writing. He switched his major to English, and used his degree as the foundation for his new career.
