How does the author use foreshadowing in the novel, What Alice Forgot?

In the novel's opening pages, Alice is surprised to find herself at the gym because she never used to like it. Since the gym is the setting in the beginning of the novel, it foreshadows how Alice discovers ways in which she has changed over the years and how she is a much different person than who she was at 29.
