Why did Fineboy choose to join the local militants in the novel, Welcome to Lagos?

Fineboy didn't join the militants because he believed in their principles, but rather, because he wanted free publicity. Fineboy still dreams of becoming a radio DJ, and he had hoped that he could become the militants' spokesman, and then somehow parlay this into an entertainment career.
