The Danvers High School Hockey Field is one of the few consistent settings throughout the novel, as much of the action is spread throughout various locations in the school, as well as travel to different games that the team is playing. Aside from serving as a place for their practices, the hockey field is the site of the first of the team’s Gatherings, events where they dance and revel in what they perceive as a shared consciousness. The field is also the burial site of Marilyn Bunroe, Little Smitty’s rabbit, who dies suddenly of a respiratory infection at the Topsfield Fair.
