Velcro - the material that serves as a fastener in clothes and other products - functions as a metaphoric representation, for the author, of the qualities and values of friendship. The softness of one side of Velcro combined with the capacity for attachment on the other side is an evocation, for him, of the two main qualities of lasting, meaningful friendship.
