We Cast a Shadow
Where does the narrator visit his father, Sir, in the novel, We Cast a Shadow?
.
.
In Part Three, the narrator visits his father, Sir, who has been incarcerated in Liberia, the oldest prison in the state, since the narrator was young. Named after the actual Angola state prison in Louisiana, Liberia is depicted as a sprawling complex which the narrator notes has locked up “more than half of all City blacks” (240), mostly men. Here, the narrator sees his father for the first time in decades and realizes Sir’s life in prison has left him unable to speak or recognize his son.
