Supercargo, also called Dee, is a community activist and childhood friend of the narrator. The pair grew up together in the Tiko. The narrator and Supercargo affectionately refer to each other as ‘cousins,’ although they are not related. Supercargo represents a moral contrast to the narrator, in that he has remained in the Tiko and prioritizes his relationships above professional gains.
