Henry’s home in Calypso, Florida is the most visited setting and where he struggles with the issues that plague his family. At the beginning of the novel, this house is not the safe haven that it should be for Henry. Charlie bullies him, his mother mostly ignores him, and his grandmother’s mind is slipping away. It holds numerous bad memories that weigh on Henry the longer he remains within it. However, over time, Henry is able to build new, better memories and his family grows closer together as they progress into the next chapter of their lives. The home eventually becomes a safe haven for multiple generations of Henry’s family and brings them all together even as their life situations push them a little bit further apart.
