Jane and John are the young girl’s dead siblings. Of the two, Jane died first, eventually passing after spending an extended period of time in bed, enduring the pain of some unspecified illness. John died soon after, although we do not learn how or why. Both Jane and John are buried next to one another in the church-yard next to the young girl’s cottage.
