We Are Okay
What is an example of simile in the novel, We Are Okay?
.
.
Through the use of simile, cellular texts act as symbols for knives in Chapter 11 of We Are Okay. LaCour writes, “In the beginning her [Mabel’s] texts were knives, slicing holes in the cocoon of motel must and diner coffee and the view of the street out my window” (119). The reason Mabel’s texts are compared to knives is because these texts cause pain to Marin as a reminder of the past she wants to escape. Instead of facing her denial, Marin wants to remain in her cocoon.
