In this painting, the head of Venus is tilted to display her body in a sexually provocative way to the spectator; not to Cupid whom she is kissing. Cupid is present as a surrogate lover for the spectator to ignore or identify with in the arms of Venus. The entire view of the painting is made to attract the spectator to the nude Venus.
