How does Marc's attitude towards Fred change over the summer in the novel, Way of the Warrior Kid?

Fred is a boy in Marc's fifth-grade class, who is worse at sports than Marc. Marc is glad that Fred is so terrible because it means no one is paying attention to him. This attitude shows the change that Marc undergoes over the summer, because he is a much kinder person by the following fall. He would never make of Fred.
