The author uses Faith planation to symbolize the atrocities of institutionalized slavery and racial oppression. As the master of Faith Plantation, Erasmus is cruel and sadistic, as he utilizes his authority over the slaves to its most brutal extent. Faith Plantation is a manifestation of the torturous and diasporic effects of slavery as an institution.
