What is the importance of social media in the novel, Want?

In the narrative present, Elizabeth is often depicted stalking Sasha and her husband's social media pages. These repeated images symbolize attachment. Though years have passed since Elizabeth and Sasha stopped talking, Elizabeth cannot let her friend go. She is desperate for evidence of her existence, and hurt by how excluded she feels from her friend's life.
