What does Elizabeth come to realize about her father over the course of the novel, Want?

Elizabeth's father, a lawyer, did not come from money, but has worked hard for his wealth and status. He resents Elizabeth her unhappiness, often demanding to know why her childhood was not good enough for her. After Elizabeth tells him and her mother that she no longer wants their money, he retreats altogether. Elizabeth has no deep affection for her father, but retrospectively realizes he must also struggle with depression.
