How does the author use flashback in the novel, Want?

The author uses flashback to highlight Elizabeth's memories of her childhood in Florida. During these flashbacks, Elizabeth's time with Sasha is central. She and Sasha would spend most of their time at Sasha's home, or would wander the town together.
