What did Jerkins discover about the Trail of Tears while conducting her research for the nonfiction book, Wandering in Strange Lands?

During her research, Jerkins discovered that many free and enslaved Black Americans were also forced to relocate along the same routes as the Native Americans during the Trail of Tears. This fact seems to account for many of the genealogical intersections between Black Americans and Native Americans.
