Emmett Scott was an employee of Booker T. Washington. Washington and Scott saw Du Bois as a threat to the circulation of the many papers that came out of their university or which were owned by wealthy supporters of Tuskegee. The two men rallied these newspapers to attack the NAACP members, as well as their white progressive supporters.
