Who is Veronica (Vero) in the novel, Vengeful Creditor?

Veronica is a girl of ten who temporarily escapes the grim poverty of her mother's home by going to school during the brief period when free primary education is available in her country. She is a bright child who loves school and misses It terribly when she is forced to resume her duties watching her younger siblings while her mother works.
