What is the importance of Toronto in the novel, VenCo?

Toronto is where the novel begins, and is Lucky's home for the entirety of her life until she goes to Salem. While Lucky loves her neighborhood and is sometimes able to see its beauty, she usually is more focused on the negative parts of the neighborhood and her life. Lucky is also resentful that forces like gentrification are changing her neighborhood and that she and Stella will soon be forced to move out.
