What is the importance of Lucky's ballerina in the novel, VenCo?

Lucky's ballerina, taken from Arnya's box, represents Lucky's desire to guard and keep things that are precious to her. Throughout the novel, Lucky has few physical possessions she cherishes, as per Arnya's advice, but the ballerina is one of them. Her desire to protect the ballerina emulates her desire to protect those she loves, particularly her grandmother.
