The author's tone varies by characters, reflecting on who they are. For example, Lucky is very practical and often eager to get to the point. Her sentences are shorter and contain less superfluous language. Meena is not only the leader of the coven but also a former actress, and often her words are infused with a sense of drama and performance. Freya and Morticia, as two of the younger members of the coven, often contains slang words. Notably, they both use the word “bitch” in an affectionate tone, using it to refer to people they like, such as Stella and Lucille. In this way, they are taking back a word with misogynistic intentions and repurposing it to be friendly and cordial.
