The climax of the novel occurs in New Orleans. While none of the characters are from New Orleans, they are all impressed, in their own way, with the city's culture and beauty. In New Orleans, Jay and Lucky both find new uses for people they had known for one way–Jay with Gerard and Lucky with Stella.
