Why does Helen Lawson end her friendship with Anne in the novel, Valley of the Dolls?

Helen Lawson befriends Anne when she is engaged to Allen because Helen is interested in Allen's father, Gino. When their engagement ends, Helen blames Anne for ruining her chances and terminates their friendship.
