Levi is an interesting case: he's voluntarily offering himself as a sacrificial unwind (called a 'tithe'). The Lassiters had Lev, the tenth child, to be given to the church as a sign of devotion and sacrifice. Lev sees the tithing as being an honor. Lev receives a great shock when he learns that he has been betrayed by the people that he loves most. Despite all that has happened to Lev, he still believes that being a tithe is the right thing for him; his purpose in life.
