Unreality of Memory
Who is Daniel Dennett as noted in the essay collection, Unreality of Memory?
.
.
Daniel Dennett is a writer whose work Gabbert references in the essay "True Crime." She particularly cites his essay "Information Technology, and the Virtues of Ignorance" (205). The piece was originally published in Daedalus in the 1980s and proves prescient of Gabbert's contemporary moment and her particular argument. Gabbert leans upon Dennett's notions about "opportunities to know" versus "obligations to know" in forming her closing arguments (206, Gabbert's italics). She holds that Dennett's ideas were not only predictive, but remain relevant to the contemporary individual's engagement with current events. She uses quotations from Dennett's essay in order to consider the individual's responsibility to know.
