Naomi, Wallace's ex-wife, left him because of his obsession with his job. It is clear that Naomi cared for him at some time in her life, but over time her love turned to resentment as Wallace continually abandoned her in favor of his own desires without realizing that her own bitterness was his fault. It is Naomi's bitterness that leads to her airing all of her grievances with Wallace at the funeral in front of those in attendance and unaware that he can hear every word she is saying.
