Under a White Sky is written from the author Elizabeth Kolbert's first person point of view. Kolbert is a reporter and journalist, whose work often focuses on the climate crisis and contemporary environmental issues. Despite her knowledgeable background in the field, Kolbert assumes the stance of explorer and adventurer throughout the text. She often includes her personal experiences and descriptions of her private observations in order to ground and guide the reader into her more complex discussions.
