What do we learn about Kennedy's father, Alex Waters, over the course of the novel, Unbreakable?

Although Alex Waters, Kennedy’s father, never makes a physical appearance in the book, we learn that he left when she was very young but claimed to love her and her mother always. He told her that he was leaving to give them a normal life. As memories of him are shared throughout the novel, he is shown to be a very caring father who would enjoy buying Kennedy candy and reading books to her.
