How did Jack cope with Mary's memory loss in the novel, Unbecoming?

Jack coped with Mary's memory loss by using notes to remind her of everyday things, such as the fact that she should go back to bed if it was still dark outside, and that she should not go out alone. Jack also listed Caroline as his emergency contact so that Caroline and Mary were forced to spend some time together.
