Tyrell’s desire for a clean and safe apartment that feels like a permanent home and his mother’s inability to provide this for him motivates Tyrell to work hard to earn money. He grows more selfless with his brother and simultaneously more resentful of his mother’s perceived laziness and ineptitude.
