In the novel, the sun is a symbol of rebirth, healing, and new life. After Tyrell moves to Bennett House, he struggles to sleep in the dirty room and finds only hopelessness in the silence and darkness of nightfall. The sun helps Tyrell to find a small measure of hope in each new day when he wakes up relaxed with Jasmine.
