How does the author use foreshadowing in Twelve Sharp?

The theft of Ranger's identity foreshadows the many plot twists along the way.... Julie's kidnapping, the FBI investigation, Carmen's murder, and Stephanie's abduction.... all blamed on Ranger but enacted by Scrog.
