What does Mrs. Wright do when Mr. Hale attempts to make small talk?

When Mr. Hale asks if Mr. Wright was home, Mrs. Wright tells him that he is but he cannot see him. When he asked why he cannot see John Wright if he is home, she says, "Cause he's dead." Mrs. Wright then continues rocking back and forth in her rocking chair.
