What is Ecstasy?

Ecstasy is a significant symbol addressed in the chapter “Ecstasy.” Tolentino writes that Ecstasy provided her with “a path toward transcendence - a way of accessing an extra human world of rapture and pardon that, in both cases, is as real as it feels.” (143) Through this object, Tolentino implicitly raises important questions on societal condemnation of drug-use and provides an intriguing comparison between drugs and her earlier Christian upbringing.
