When Raphael is finally released from the police station, why does he laugh as he walks home?

Raphael is so overcome with relief and amazement that he has been freed, he begins to laugh on his walk home from the Ermita Police Station, even though he is bruised and battered. When he thinks of how proud he is of himself for not giving in and telling the police everything, he laughs harder with glee.
