The auditorium at Green Meadow High School is the setting for the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, and in turn, the novel's climax. On the night of the event, the community gathers in the auditorium. The energy is positive and vibrant, as the attendees are thrilled to honor Front Desk Diane and to welcome the famous Vito Falcone back to town.

During the ceremony, Tracy reads a welcome speech. Then, while listening to the other speeches and honors, Tracy becomes lost in thought, unsure what her future will look like. After Vito's video, she starts to cry. Meanwhile, Jack suffers a heart attack on stage just as Glenn Keeler darts towards the front of the auditorium and starts to shoot at Vito. The shooting marks the novel's climax, as well as a turning point in all of the characters' lives.
