Deja's family lives in one room at the Avalon shelter. She notes that the walls are crumbling, the space is crowded, there are only two beds, and no other furniture. The family must use public restrooms and eat their meals in the cafeteria, as cooking is not allowed in their room. Deja says the best thing about Avalon is that it is located in a nice, diverse neighborhood.
