What is the theme in Touching the Void by Joe Simpson?

Certainly there is determination involved but I think that the main theme involves the climbers dependency on each other. They work together as a team during their climb and that dependency continues after Joe breaks his leg. It is then that Joe says he is absolutely dependent on Simon.
