Who is Chris from Tomorrow, When the War Began and what is their importance?

Chris was originally supposed to be one of the campers, but his parent's refuse to let him go. After the invasion, he hides out and later meets up with Ellie and the others when they come to his house looking for a car. Chris is described as a bit odd but a genius..... he is musical and writes poetry.
