Why is Mrs. Ramsay so agitated about Nancy, Andrew, Minta, and Paul being late for supper?

Mrs. Ramsay feels they are being inconsiderate, especially since she planned such a special dinner for her guest, William Bankes. All the food has to be served at a particular moment, or it will be ruined.
