How does Zhao alter his own behavior in order to assimilate to his new life in X in the short-story, To the Dogs?

Over time, Zhao realizes that in order to fit in to his new life, he will have to alter his demeanor and behavior. He relies upon Chen for wisdom and advice and soon stops wearing a shirt, begins eating flies, and actively participates in the harrassment of local women.
