Scout suffers a loss of innocence when she tries to explain the socioeconomics of Maycomb to her teacher. Miss Caroline is new in the area, and when Scout attempts to tell her about her classmates.... to be what she believes is helpful, she is rewarded by having her hand slapped several times with a ruler.
