Shakespeare makes wide use of animal imagery, particularly, in painting a clear picture of Timon's so-called-friends..... Timon even described himself as a beast.
"affable wolves, meek bears..."
"The strain of man's bred out: Into baboon and monkey."
A beast, as thou art. The canker gnaw thy heart,
For showing me again the eyes of man!
