What is the theme in Three Men in a Boat: To Say Nothing of the Dog by Jerome K. Jerome?

I think that J's singular wit and humour make up the major theme of the story. Much of the story recounts the foibles and missteps of the three friends. The humor is disarming. There is also much introspection and poetic musings about life from J.
