When the refugee and the convict leave the Red Cross boat, they spend a few days wandering aimlessly down the Louisiana bayou, dragging their heavy boat behind them. After awhile, they come across a small hut raised on stilts where a Cajun man, who speaks no English, lives. Through gesticulations, the convict manages to express to the Cajun man that they need a place to stay and the Cajun man agrees.
