What happens when the boat overturns that the tall and fat convicts are paddling down the river?

Soon after embarking on the mission to rescue a female refugee, the fat convict returns to camp stating that their boat overturned. He claims to have grabbed onto a low-hanging branch to save himself, but claims that the tall convict drowned. In reality, the tall convict was thrown from the boat and sustained a massive head trauma, but was able to make his way back to the boat and to reach the pregnant refugee.
