How many of the wild horses escape from the corral at the end of the auction, and what is the farmer's reaction to this number?

At the end of the auction, all of the wild horses purchased have escaped with the exception of Eck's horse, which suffered a broken neck in the corralling process and did not survive. The farmers wonder if Ratcliff had been right all along and this whole ordeal was a scam set up by Hipps to sell them horses they could not control only to recapture the horses himself and sell them to the next town.
