How does the Cajun man hunt alligators?

While staying with the Cajun man, the convict decides to help him in all his chores, which includes hunting. While out on the boat one day, the Cajun man lunges at an animal in the water and stabs it with his knife. The convict is shocked to realize the animal the man is stabbing is an alligator. The animal fights, but the Cajun man wins. When they return home, the Cajun man explains that alligators can also be killed with a gun, but killing with a knife is more exciting.
