Why does Evan invite Rose to go down to the beach and look at the stars on page 103?

After the argument with Alice, Evan realizes that Rose may be upset, so he asks her to come with him to walk on the beach and look at the stars. He wants to reassure her that everything is all right, and that the argument is just grownup stuff.
